" To deconstruct an idea is to show how that idea undermines what it represents." In the 1960s, Robert Indiana decon- structed both language and visual art with his pop art LOVE sculpture. These designs' link to that cultural icon is deliberate, not only for their reference to our shared human experience of love, but because we— lesbian, gay, bi, or trans—are each more than colored stripes and one letter in an abbrevia- tion. Each character is defined as much by its relation to the entire design as its own identity. The whole is big and bold. LGBT Pop and GLBT Pop are available on merchandise at JamieCo Design and as framed prints at ImageKind. |
